Let me in

The recent spate of ransomware scares have been in the news again.

These insidious bugs that infect your computer allow criminals to demand significant amounts of money to release your own data. Just think of the impact that would have on you, if you could no longer retrieve any of your files, data, or information?

A colleague recently suffered a Ransomware attack and to this day he has no idea how it got in, or how much they got out and had to rebuild from scratch. And yet many of these attacks go under the radar as companies feel wounded and vulnerable and ashamed that they fell foul and were not sufficiently well protected.

The statistics surrounding ransomware are increasing, with attacks costing UK businesses millions each year and it is estimated that of those targeted, less than half can recover their files.

The very least we can all do is ensure that confidential information is password protected and data encrypted (at rest and in transit) so that any such attack would be limited in its effect.
