FAQs

We want to offer you as much value as we can and help you wherever possible.

Below are our extensive FAQs, designed to help you to understand our process, systems and terminology.

What is ERP?

ERP is an acronym that stands for Enterprise Resource Planning.  Widely used by manufacturing companies it is a software management system that integrates an organisation’s business processes activities.

What is a Legacy ERP System?

A legacy Enterprise Resource Planning system usually refers to an earlier version of the ERP software that was implemented some years previously.  The fact the software is outdated does not necessarily mean it is no longer fit for purpose.  Legacy ERPs can be optimised for improved system performance and, more often than not, are extremely stable and very reliable.

Why do people pick an Infor ERP Solution?

Unlike other software companies Infor offers a comprehensive portfolio of Industry-specific ERP solutions which is supported by an extensive collection of MarketPlace add ons.   Whether you are an SME or muti-national manufacturing corporation, Infor has a vast range of business software applications to suit.

What is Infor ERP LN?

Infor ERP LN is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software suite produced by a company called Infor.  The product provides manufacturing companies a fully integrated system that includes Finance, Service, Projects & Logistics modules and covers full business processes from Planning and Purchasing to Sales and Customer service.

How long should an Infor ERP system last for my business?

How long is a piece of string?  An average ERP system is installed for longer than you would imagine. The cost of change can be high, not just in terms of the licence upgrades, but also the disruption to users during the change and the time to complete the deployment. Users can find their workload disrupted and less efficient during the implementation.  For this reason (and frankly because a new ERP is going to be expensive) systems are lasting much longer – typically between 5-10 years with a regular system of updates and patches instead of a complete change.  It is not unheard of for organisations to be using systems that are 10-15 years old, but the ERP vendor may no longer wish to support the product so “End of Life” will force a migration.

Can you upgrade from a Baan System to LN Cloudsuite?

The simple answer is yes but the reality is that it would be like implementing a whole new system.  The latest versions of LN CloudSuite have role-based dashboards with KPI’s so it will look and feel completely different with increased industry functionality.

How can I make my Infor ERP system go faster?

More often than not the system gets blamed for poor performance when in fact it is the users themselves who are failing the system. With regular maintenance and general software housekeeping ReInforce can help optimise system performance, reliability and increase productivity.  Our experienced team of professionals have been doing this repeatedly for other clients and can bring those skills to bear to improve efficiency and help your ERP go faster!

How often should I do updates to my ERP?

Best practice is to install updates and patches as soon as they are available and should be included as part of your ERP System Maintenance.  This ensures resilience and guarantees that you are always on the latest version of the software.  It is not a good idea to stockpile the updates as may leave you exposed to system fails or external forces such as cyber-attacks.

What is Infor known for?

Most people associate Infor with Enterprise Software Planning applications such as LN Cloudsuite, M3, Syteline and SunSystems.  However, Infor has a wide range of complementary software solutions such Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), Configure Price Quote (CPQ), Business Intelligence (BI), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) as well as specialist software for the Healthcare and Hospitality sectors.

What are the core functions of an ERP system?

ERP Systems are used by companies to perform a wide range of management functions, most usually, finance, inventory, stock, orders, invoicing, and sales.  The ERP should provide the means to run a business including all the elements and processes from build, supply, sale, and service.  A good ERP will not only include all historical activities in that chain (both supply and fulfilment as well as the financial management to report on it) but it will also enable “What If” and future trend analysis to help an organisation to plan.

How can I find out which ERP system is best for our business?

A business review by an independent 3rd party who has no axe to grind, and no functional preference is best placed to take an un-biased look at your business needs.  In-depth interviews with different departments and stakeholders will enable a Requirements Document to be drawn up and agreed.  This can and should be done collaboratively with all business units and then solutions reviewed to see which one fits best.
