Keeping up with the Joneses

Were you aware that about 80% of companies that experienced a data breach, or a failed audit, could have avoided it had they patched on time or updated their configuration? But we are all busy and how often have we clicked “remind me later” when an update, even to Windows, pops up and we are in the middle of something else?

We should all be more organised about maintenance from the simplest PC patch to maintaining systems and ensuring they are the best and latest version of themselves. Often changes and migrations are driven by “End of Life” threats and so the project gets underway because it simply must. Hopefully like-for-like can be updated with some “enhancements” made along the way, with the new features made possible from a more up to date system.

However, were you aware that a patch and update policy will also strengthen your security which can protect your business and clients from devastating cyber threats.

A patch management policy should include a regular review of vulnerability including a look at your software assets as some expose customers to more risks than others. Certainly, older systems do not offer the same level of security as more recent versions and a hybrid environment where a user has both cloud and local solutions may need to look more carefully at a security posture.

In essence, don’t keep putting it off, but schedule those updates, review the patches, and ensure your software management strategy focuses on staying current.
