Last month we explained CPQ (Configure Price Quote) and the benefits it can bring, especially for manufacturing companies with complex product design, quoting and build. We also stressed the importance of CPQ integrating with your ERP so you can seamlessly account for those products and invoice and manage stock accordingly. However, how do you choose your ERP?
Our recommendations are that you start by looking at which ERP vendors have an industry solution that aligns to your own business. Much of the functionality, nomenclature and processes can already be defined and aligned if you select an industry ERP. This saves a vast amount of configuration and design, especially if
you work with a team who have “done this before” in a similar business in the same industry. This real-life experience is invaluable as they will understand your business more quickly. “Speed to delivery and value” is essential and will result in a better ROI.
Secondly, we are back to “Customer Success” once more as this is the other essential criterion. However, there is an additional spin and requirement for the ERP – it must make your customer’s experience better.
The new ERP must facilitate a faster delivery and turnaround, invoicing must always be accurate, changes must be accommodated and the most demanding customer requirements should be taken in your stride. This will combine to deliver a better customer experience as you strive for your own customer success.
Another core consideration is the ERP roadmap. You need to be reassured that there is a plan that futureproofs you and supports change. We don’t know what we don’t know and nothing proves that more than the last 2 years. The ERP needs to flex and adjust to new product lines, new supply chain issues or new ways of working.
We can help with your selection process for ERP and other ancillary and related solutions such as Business Process Management and CPQ.
