In our “Business Efficiency Survey” >50% of respondents said that a system could automate some of their weekly tasks.
I know I feel the same, as there are many routine jobs, I know could be taken off my hands with a little forethought, planning and automation. So, how do we cut into those tasks with the right automation? Firstly, you must look at how easy it will be to learn and use the new system or, how much will it cost to pay someone to create the workflow? This is where another of our survey questions can assist.
- “They should be intuitive”
- “Depends on the complexity and I would like to think we are always learning”.
- “Training and learning are as useful as the systems themselves as they provide staff motivation and can be useful KPIs “
- “Anything that takes more than a few hours to start to be useful is not useful”
That is an interesting statistic to me as I have seen first-hand the business benefits of BPM and yet it is still a little-known productivity tool, unlike Word, Excel, and PPT.
It seems that the simple task of building a workflow and automation is hard for us to get our heads around but it really can revolutionise the ways in which you and your colleagues work.
If you have repetitive tasks, email confirmations, checking dates or balances, getting authorisations and a plethora of other “tasks” the chances are some, or all of it, can be automated.
