Blackhawk Down – Oh No, Facebook Down?

It never occurred to me one evening that Facebook was down. As I looked for a particular photograph to show someone, I just assumed it was my mobile that was faulty, or that I had lost my signal.  It was only afterwards that we all realised the business implications, as the route through to other applications and the ubiquitous way we “SSO” (single-sign-on) and are directed through FB.

And we all use WhatsApp as the communication tool of choice and so do many businesses for essential communications. Well, that’s a lesson learned.

Trust was lost, and trust is so important in all walks of life. Trust in your suppliers, your partners and intermediaries has to be a business imperative as it reflects on you and your business.

The FB down incident showed that even the biggest can be vulnerable and so we all need to check and re-check our own processes, partners, and systems. Doing this routinely needs to become part of your own business continuity process as we all ride the continuous road of change.
