Cisco are leading the charge with a 10-year plan to teach people IT skills. Their brave claim is to put 25 million trainees through the Cisco Networking Academy which includes courses in Networking, Cybersecurity, and general IT. Reassuringly they have new partnerships to help deliver on this huge program so this looks real and not a hollow promise. They plan multiple formats (in person and online) across 190 countries and importantly, it drives the applied skills needed to help students to seek job opportunities.
We have written in previous newsletters of the skills shortage in technology (read it HERE) which is widening into a significant gap. So, what I like about this scheme is the remit for learning basic technology skills as well as the more complex aspects of IT. The partnership with educational providers also sets this initiative apart as it will be delivered across countries, and regions, through commercial companies, government bodies, not-for-profit and academic institutions.
