Self-drive cars have a posh name: “Autonomous cars” or robotic cars. They use sensors to assess and react to the environment so there is no human interaction required. Although there is still much emotional resistance to this, most individuals (although not all) are inherently lazy. I mean we sit on our sofas, tap a few buttons on our phones, and 20 minutes later a fresh, hot, pizza arrives so why not hand over the heavy lifting to robotics? They won’t want a coffee break nor will they complain about a bad back!
Maritime autonomous surface ships” (MASS) are the autonomous version of cargo ships. They are crewless vessels that transport bulk cargo however, there is a caveat that this is only done through “navigable” waters. The worlds’ first MASS was launched last month in Norway and the YARA BIRKELAND will be off on its own after a period of testing. For more information: Maritime News
